Bikes can be hired by selecting the bike hire option when you book your ferry ticket.
You may also hire on a walk up basis from the bike hire station on the island. Availability of bikes for walk up hires will depend on pre-bookings on the day.
Over the peak holiday periods we often book out so to be sure of a booking it is best to book with your ferry ticket.

Bike hire is an option when you book your ferry ticket. When selecting the hire it is useful to include a comment on the size of bike you will need.
Once you have booked your ferry ticket you cannot subsequently amend the ticket to include a bike hire.
Hire may also be available on a walk up basis at the bike station on island (subject to availability).

On the day booking is only available when booking your ferry ticket.
Bike bookings must be made through the ferry booking system. Depending on booking numbers on any day bikes may be available for hire on a walk up basis from the bike hire station on island.

Adult bikes are $40 per day or $30 per day for a multi day hire.
Childrens bikes are $30 per day or $20 per day for a multi day hire. -
Your daily hire period is from opening of the bike station until close of the bike station or part thereof.

The bike hire station is open from 15 minutes after the morning ferry arrival until 15 minutes before the last ferry departure for the day. Over summer this is usually from 9.15am until 4.15pm

Bikes can be collected or returned at any time during the Bike hire station operating hours (normally 9.15 am until 15 minutes before the last ferry departure).

The pick up is on the island near to the Ranger Station at Darlington. It is about a 10 minute walk from the ferry.

No - the bikes are collected and dropped off on island.

No e-bikes are available for hire at this time.

Yes we have 20 and 24 inch children’s bikes. These are suitable for heights ranging from 108cm - 129cm tall (20 inch) and 125cm – 148cm tall (24 inch).
The bikes do not have training wheels.

You can carry a back pack of less than 20l capacity and under 7kg in weight such as a typical daypack.
We do not allow large packs to be carried. We have trailers available for hire for overnight camping gear. These are limited in number and need to be arranged directly with the bike station.
We are happy to hold bags at the bike station while you ride. For rider safety, we do not allow bags to be carried on the handle bars.

The bikes are not fitted with racks or panniers

Yes, we have a limited number.
These must be arranged in advance with the bike station.
Riding in the trailers or using them as a child carrier is prohibited.

No we do not have baby carriers and limit use of each bike to one person at a time.

Yes helmets are provided with each hire and must be worn by riders.

The bike station attendants can assist with a repair if you are within the Darlington/Painted Cliffs area. The time to get to you will depend on staff availability and where you are. You will need to call the bike hire station for assistance. The phone number is on the bike and also on the information website.
If you intend to ride south of the Painted Cliffs a puncture repair kit can be provided for you to use.
Alternatively, you will need to contact the bike hire station to arrange assistance. It is probable that you may need to walk back to the Painted Cliffs area. Bike hire staff do not have a recovery vehicle.

There are hills on both the trail to the Fossil Cliffs and Painted Cliffs. The hills are not steep and about 400m long. You may need to walk up them.

We provide refunds for anyone who is not comfortable riding the bike safely.
We ask all hirers to undertake a familiarisation ride when they collect the bike.
If you are unable to ride confidently we will provide a refund. We also provide refunds in adverse weather conditions where tracks may be closed due to high wind or rain.
